The drug reaction claimed lives of three more people on Wednesday raising the death toll to 72 so far. Bilqees Bibi (58) died at Mayo Hospital while Rana Anwar (60) and Abdul Ghani (50) died at Services Hospital. As per details, 9 deaths have so far reported in Jinnah Hospital, 13 in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 40 in Services Hospital and 10 deaths have been confirmed in Mayo Hospital.
Dozens of affected people are still under treatment at various government hospitals. Separate wards have been allocated for such patients. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed authorities concerned to provide all facilities to the patients. The Punjab health department has also issued a notification for conducting post mortem of those who lost their lives due to drug reaction. Secretary Health Punjab Jehanzeb said that eight committees were working to look into the matter while data of such patients was also being compiled.
These committees have been constituted for the scrutiny of the medicines from various aspects. Similarly, the samples of medicines had been sent to different laboratories for analysis in the country and abroad. Chief Minister's Inspection Team on Wednesday collected relevant record pertaining to supply of substandard medicines to the PIC.
