Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government is considering establishment of a state-of-the-art centre for the rehabilitation of drug addicts, and both the Federal and provincial governments should work together for this purpose.
He was addressing a meeting here Tuesday, which was held here to review the pace of Drug-free Lahore project being implemented with the joint collaboration of the Federal and Punjab governments. Chairman Standing Committee on Narcotics Control and Member National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Assembly Members Suriya Asghar, Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Acting Secretary Ministry of Narcotics Control Zafar Abbas Lak, Director General Anti-Narcotics Force, Secretaries of various departments, Director General Punjab Forensic Science Agency, Commissioner and CCPO Lahore as well as officers concerned were present.
The CM said drug-free Lahore is a joint project of the Federal and Punjab governments, and it should be done in a co-ordinated manner. He also issued instructions for immediate release of funds for the project. Forming a steering committee on behalf of the Punjab government for furthering the project, he directed that the committee should submit a report within three days after looking into various aspects of the project.
Member Provincial Assembly Zaeem Qadri will be the convenor of the steering committee. While giving a briefing, Project Director Altaf Qamar informed the meeting that under the project a vigorous campaign is in progress to keep the youth and labourers away from drugs.
