The Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs met on Tuesday with Begum Nasim Akhter Chaudhry, MNA in the chair to discuss the various amendments proposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan in respect of (i) The Electoral Rolls Act, 1974, (ii) The Senate (Election) Act, 1975, (iii) The Representation of People Act, 1976 and (iv) The Political Parties Order 2002, to hold Free and Fair Elections in the country.
Chairman NADRA apprised the committee that the voter lists will be completed in time and the accuracy will also be guaranteed on the basis of "one person one vote". However, the option will be given to voter regarding the place of the registration of the vote. Secretary Election Commission informed the Committee that the forthcoming Elections will be held according to the authentic voter lists prepared by NADRA.
A constitutional (Amendment) moved by Khurram Jehangir Wattoo MNA, was also discussed in detail regarding the approval of all treats, agreements and MoUs by the parliament, related with the Defence or co-operation in the field of Defense. The Committee directed the Ministry of Defense to brief the Committee regarding the agreements and MoUs signed by the Ministry in the next meeting. MNAs Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, S.A. Iqbal Qadri, Sardar Muhammad Yaqub Khan Nasar, Nawab Mohammad Yousaf Talpur, Khurram Jehangir Wattoo and Naseer Bhutta attended the meeting.-PR
