Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo on Tuesday said that a number of activities would be arranged to mark the upcoming Kashmir Solidarity Day, displaying Pakistan' abiding solidarity with the Kashmiris brethren. In a press conference, Wattoo said that Ministry of Kashmir Affairs had finalised various programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
He said that Kashmir Convention would be held on the occasion and this year it will be presided over by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. The convention will be attended by representatives from all the provinces, AJK government and ministers. A minute of silence will be observed across the country at 10 am to pay tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir.
"Human chain" will be formed by the people of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir at Kohala Bridge to show solidarity with their brethren in the Indian-held Kashmir. Seminars, conferences, rallies and other events to mark the day will be arranged in the whole week. The foreign office will arrange a briefing for all foreign missions in Islamabad on the latest situation in the Indian held Kashmir and all Pakistani missions abroad will organise similar functions in their respective countries.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed the channels to on-air special programmes, projecting the Kashmiris cause. Lok Virsa and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) will also arrange cultural programmes with handicrafts exhibition and Kashmiri songs. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the one who decided to mark February 5 as Kashmir Solidarity Day officially. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), when comes into power, celebrate the day with great zeal and enthusiasm.
This year too, PPP-led government will show the same spirit on the day and raise voices at different platforms for Kashmiris' right of self determination. To a question, Wattoo said that Pak-India relation which were disturbed after Mumbai attack have been restored through efforts of the government and "India is ready to have composite dialogue with Pakistan". To a question, Wattoo said under the trade exchange between AJK and IHK during 2008 to 2011, 14,480 trucks carrying goods of worth Rs 8.4 billion entered from AJK to Indian held Kashmir.
