The Supreme Court issued directives to Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to address the issue of registration relating to eunuchs' guardians name under the rules. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, which hearing matter, also ordered Nadra to strictly avoid registering fake eunuchs as well.
The CJP said that eunuchs should be provided job opportunities and their services could be hired on contract basis like in immunisation campaigns etc.
The court was informed that some eunuchs wanted that their gurus' name should be mentioned in the column of guardian but the NADRA rejected their plea, on which, the court directed the chairman NADRA to resolve the matter according to the rules. During the proceedings, some eunuchs from Muzaffargarh told the bench that they had received tender worth Rs0.6 million for construction of drainage system in their area. The court appreciated their effort.
All the provinces submitted their reports about efforts regarding the welfare of eunuchs. It was told that Balochistan government had started registration of eunuchs as 135 eunuchs were registered in Quetta The Balochistan government also said that it was ready to provide jobs to the eunuchs in income tax department with Rs10,000 per month salary.
An official from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that 36 eunuchs were registered in the province. Punjab government informed that 480 eunuchs had applied for registration, of which 331 were registered, while an official from social welfare department Sindh told the court that 24 eunuchs have been issued CNICs.
A officer of capital police said that 11 eunuchs were contacted for registration, but they were not co-operating with Nadra in the matter. Aslam Khakhi, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that eunuchs in Pakistan were considering celebration of 'eunuchs day' on the date when they had filed the petition regarding the matter in the Supreme Court. The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
