Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that provision of comfortable and a quality transport facility to the masses is the top priority of the government and solid steps have been taken for this purpose. He said this while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of progress of Bus Rapid Transit System project and provision of transport facilities to the people, here on Saturday.
He mentioned that modern transport service has been started in the provincial metropolis and its scope will soon be extended to other big cities of the province and the work is in progress on the project of Bus Rapid Transit System. Members National Assembly Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Bilal Yasin, Chairman Lahore Transport Company, Kh. Ahmad Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Transport, District Co-ordination Officer Lahore and officers concerned were also present. Director General LDA gave a detailed briefing regarding progress of the project.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that on the pattern of developed countries, transport system is being organised on modern lines in Lahore and other big cities. He said that work has been started on the project of Bus Rapid Transit System with the co-operation of Turkey and this project will be a shining example of Pak-Turk friendship.
He said that in the first phase, the track will be laid from General Hospital to Kalma Chowk, in the second phase, from Gajjumata to General Hospital and in the third phase, from Shahdara to Kalma Chowk. He said that this project is of great importance and delay of a moment will not be tolerated.
