The shopkeepers of Urdu Bazaar staged a protest demonstration on Monday over the killing of a trader, Shahzaib Farooqui. The trader was gunned down on late Saturday by extortionists when he refused to pay a ransom of Rs 0.5 million. The protesters, who had gathered on the M A Jinnah Road, chanted slogans against the law enforcers and extortion mafia. They demanded of the government to immediately arrest the killers. Later, the protesters were also joined by the traders of Timber market.
The protesters questioned performance of the LEAs in maintaining peace in the country's financial hub. Despite several complaints in respective police stations, no security measure had so far been taken to protect the shopkeepers, they maintained. The protestors dispersed peacefully after assurance from the police to take security measures and to nab the killers of Farooqi.
