Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Friday warned that his party would strongly resist any extension in the tenure of Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha. "In no way will the PML-N give any space on the issues of national interest - extension to DG ISI," Nisar said while talking to reporters outside Parliament House.
According to him, a drama is being staged to show that on one hand DG ISI is filing an affidavit in Supreme Court in the Memo scandal while on the other, he is seeking extension in his tenure. "It would be the mother of all deals if the extension is granted.
That deal will negate the stances of DG ISI and Army Chief that they have submitted in their replies to the apex court [in memo case]," he said. According to him, such a 'deal' will no less than a national crime. He was of the view that a deal on the controversial memo had been struck, adding that if things were to be done in such a way then why the precious time of the Supreme Court was wasted.
"Now the process of extension to General Pasha would be a political issue and the PML-N reserves its right to adopt any strategy against the move," he warned. Commenting on the Senate elections, the leader of opposition said there were open deals at some places, adding that the elements involved in 'horse-trading' should be exposed and stopped forthwith. He said that 'horse-trading' in the Senate polls was condemnable and urged the Election Commission of Pakistan and the judiciary to take action on reports.
