Former interior minister and chief of Peoples' Party (PP-Sherpao), Aftab Ahmad Khan on Saturday escaped another suicide attempt. However, the attack claimed the life of police personnel while seven others including his son Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao and Mohammad Ali Khan MPA were injured in the incident.
According to hospital sources one police personnel died in the explosion occurred near the vehicle of PPP leader while six others including two members of the provincial assembly sustained injuries. They were rushed to tehsil headquarters hospital Shabqadar and Lady Reading Hospital. A Mohmand Agency based Taliban group has accepted the responsibility of the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the blast occurred after the conclusion of a public meeting. The convoy of the vehicle of Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and other party leaders was targeted. However, the veteran politician escaped unhurt. Later, Sherpao visited the site of the explosion. On the occasion, the area was cordoned off by security agencies and heavy contingent of police was deployed there.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has strongly condemned the suicide attack on the convoy of the former Interior Minister and Chairman of the PPP (Sherpao), Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao at Shabqadar and described it a highly inhuman and dastardly act.
