The Government College University (GCU) has organised the week-long All Pakistan Technology and Art Festival 2012 that was endeavoured to provide a platform to students from across Pakistan to exhibit their innovative ideas, share knowledge and reveal their creativity.
As many as 533 students from 42 educational institutions including Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, UET, NCA, FAST, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Punjab University, Kinnaird College, King Edward Medical University Lahore and FCC University Lahore participated in the eighteen competitions and two workshops of the festival organised by GCU Media Watch Society (MWS) and Association for Computing Machinery (GCU-ACM) under the direct patronage of vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and Computer Sciences Department Director Dr Muhammad Saleem Khan.
The most thrilling event of the festival was All Pakistan Speed Programming Competition that was won by Abdul Wahab and Agam Sufayan. After Speed Programming, the E-gamming was the most participated event of the Competition. Jawad Javed and Munaza Farooq stood first in Project Exhibition. Muhammad Bilal Ibraheem, Munir Ahmad, Ruqia Riaz, Awais Ali Shiekh, Muneeba Ali and Rehan Butt secured top positions in the All Pakistan General Quiz, Sketching, Painting, Photography, Calligraphy and Short Movie competitions, respectively. Kamran Khalil and Abdur Rahman won the Logo Designing Contest.
The team of HITEC University Taxila clean swept the All Pakistan Drama Competition. Omer Tariq won the Best Technology Idea Competition. The news and article writing workshops were also part of the festival which was aimed at improving the creative writing skills of students.
GCU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman said that science, literature and arts are equally important for the progress and prosperity of mankind and such co-curricular activities, besides creating a positive environment of competition, provide a platform to students from diverse backgrounds to socialise and share their experiences and ideas. He congratulated the students who have won the different competitions during the festival. He said GCU would keep on hosting such competitions as it has doubled the funds for student societies for holding such creative activities.
