Deputy Country Director UNDP, Jean Luc Stalon on Wednesday said that Pakistan is among the hardest global warming region in the world, where drastically climatic changing issues are faced and stressed the need for strengthening of early forecasting system for reduction of disaster risk in the country.
Addressing at the launching ceremony based on the research papers presented by Disaster Management professionals in the second International Disaster Management Conference 2010 on "Good Governance in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation", was held at University of Peshawar.
He informed that UNDP had actively engaged both at central and provincial level after devastating earthquake in 2005, while preparing a solid preparedness plan to cope with natural disastrous situation. For the purpose, he said they are also sensitising international donors.
Director, Fata Disaster Management Authority Arshad Khan while speaking on the occasion said the authority is planning a comprehensive survey and training for more than 1,300 Fata school teachers with the help of Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management to make, a disaster resilient Fata and Pakistan.
Dr Muhammad Iqbal Khan Vice Chairman Al Khidmat foundation and Dr Farrukh Seir presented review of the conference proceedings book and found it updated and original as independent observers. Dean Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences and Director CDPM Professor Dr Amir Nawaz Khan said concerted mainstream efforts needs to be done to address the social and economic aspect of natural and manmade disasters on the life of an ordinary Pakistani.
