Chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has said that Pakistan's Judiciary enjoys complete independence, saying that common people particularly lawyers' community as well as Parliamentarians have strived hard for restoration of judiciary and judicial system in the country.
He was expressing these views while talking to Chief Justice of Sudan and his delegation at Parliament House here on Thursday. Chairman appreciated the commendable gesture of goodwill shown by the Sudanese judiciary through paying visit to Pakistan and Upper House. "We believe that your visit would help provide proximity between our judicial institutions with a view to sharing experiences and good practices to mutual benefit," he added.
Bukhari told the delegates about working of judiciary and judicial system in Pakistan and Parliament's role in strengthening judiciary via Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment, which makes recommendations to the President for appointment of judges in superior courts.
Chairman Senate told the Sudanese delegation that since induction of democratic government after 2008 elections, the foremost step taken by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was to strengthen judiciary via restoration of deposed judges. He told the delegation that the parliament has played a key role in striking a balance of power and an equation of mutual respect between Parliament and Judiciary. Through constitutional reforms like 18th and 19th Constitutional Amendments provided for a judicial commission for appointment of judges to superior courts and a Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment with a mandate to give approval of the nomination made by the judicial commission.-PR
