A three-day tent-pegging competition started here at the federal capital on Friday after eight years, as last event of mastery in horsemanship was held in the city in 2004. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration with the different organisations organised the competition at Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9).
Chairman Prime Minister's Task Force Faisal Sakhi Butt speaking on the occasion said that efforts would be made to make the traditional game a regular feature in the region and announced to establish a permanent ground for the purpose. The traditional sports including Kabaddi, horse race, cattle shows, and other colourful games would be held in Islamabad on regular basis with the support of different organisations to provide healthy sports and entertainment to the residents of the city, he said.
Faisal Sakhi said Islamabad was blended with vast grounds and strong tradition for horsemanship but this traditional sport had been ignored in the past. He said the sport ground of international standard would be set up in the capital in addition to provision of the quality sport facility for those traditional games. Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal Chairman Zamurd Khan was also present on the occasion. Horsemen and teams from across the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the competition. More than 300 riders would entertain the visitors of the festivity to be concluded on Sunday.
