The Old Ravians-XI beat the Vice Chancellor-XI by 50 runs at the annual festival cricket match here on Friday at the Government College University Lahore Oval Ground. Punjab Education Minister and Old Ravian Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman opened the cricket match by scoring a single on the ball by GCU Political Science Department Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt. GCU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman also graced the match as the guest of honour.
The Old Ravians-XI, batting first, scored 168 runs in 15 overs under the captaincy of former text cricketer Saleem Malik. Vice-Chancellor-XI could not face the heat and surrendered after scoring 118 runs in 14 overs. Old Ravian Barrister Aziz Nauman, who came all the way from Glasgow to play the match, was declared man of the match for his expel of 3 overs in which he garbed 5 wickets for just 15 runs.
Addressing on the prize distribution ceremony, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman recalled his memories associated with playing under the famous clock tower of GCU. GCU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman congratulated the Old Ravians on wining the annual festival match for the consecutive third year. Later, the GCU vice-chancellor and Education Minister along with Professor Dr Ikram-ul-Haq Chairman GCU Sports Board and Director Sports Khadeim Ali Khan GCU presented souvenirs to the distinguished Old Ravians and match officials.
