Engineering Development Board (EDB) has constituted six sectoral committees and assigned them the task of examining the proposals relating to their respective sectors, as are received from the industry, various trade bodies and business houses. The EDB has initiated this Competitiveness and Efficiency Improvement Exercise for the budget FY 2012-13, to achieve the objective of "competitiveness and productivity."
The sectors include: Automotive sector - cars/trucks/trailors/tractors, motorcycle/bicycle and auto rickshaw. Cast and machined parts, forged and machine parts, sheet metal parts etc, farm machinery and equipment. Steel sector: Chemical, plastic and other mineral based products. Paper and Paper Board Products sector, electrical machinery & equipment pumps & motors and wires & cables sector, consumer electronics, home appliances and HVAC, fans, refectories and ceramics. Heavy engineering sector: Casting, forgings, moulds and dyes, surgical, cutlery, medical equipment and hollow-ware.
EDB has requested all the stakeholders including concerned industry, trade associations and business houses etc to send their proposals for the budget 2012-13 to their respective sectoral committee for evaluation thereof. The committees have been assigned the task to redress the tariff and other related issues of the concerned local industry affecting their competitiveness, further expansion and entrance into the global market and send their proposals on prescribed Tariff Proposal Performa available on EDB website.
Only such proposals as are requiring amendments in the Customs Act, 1969, Sales Tax Act, 1990 and Federal Excise Act, 2005, the schedules relating thereto and the notifications issued there-under may be forwarded to the committees. Proposals requiring administrative actions may not be forwarded. Information regarding constitution of committee, their Terms of References, guiding principles, list of active SROs concerning to the industry have been placed on EDB website.
