The Joint sitting of the parliament Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution in which recommended that a comprehensive and dedicated law on acid crimes be passed at the federal and provincial level and to establish burn centre at district level. The resolution was moved by Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Kashmila Tariq in the joint-house of the parliament, which was adopted unanimously.
According to resolution, this joint sitting of the Senate and the National Assembly expresses deep sorrow at the horrific death of Fakhra Younus and demands justice for her along with all other acid victims. We demand that those culprits who defaced Fakhra and ruined her life be identified and punished forthwith and a transparent enquiry be ordered as to why the culprits were not earlier identified or punished.
This house calls upon the government to review the criminal justice system and remove the legal lacunae that make easy acquittals possible in such brutal crimes. This house strongly recommends that a comprehensive and dedicated law on acid crimes be passed at the federal and provincial levels.
It further asserts that the federal and provincial government must commit to provide a fully funded treatment, healthcare and establish burn centre at district level. Anusha Rehman of PML-N, Senator Shahid Syed of ANP, Nafisa Shah of PPP and other members supported the views of Kshmila Tariq.
