The judicial commission investigating Memogate scandal Saturday summoned former US Ambassador Hussain Haqqani and Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yaseen Malik to appear before it on April 05. Yaseen Malik has been called for cross-examination over his statement recorded by the commission in its last session.
Yaseen had termed Ijaz Mansoor an insane person. Yaseen had also rejected Ijaz's statement. Ijaz had claimed that he had once arranged Yaseen's meeting with the head of RAW. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court adjourned the petition filed by Hussain Haqqani for an indefinite period as his counsel, Asma Jahangir, is on a visit to India. Haqqani pleaded the apex court that he could not appear before the commission under serious security threats to his life in Pakistan.
The officials of Foreign Office will also appear before the commission to produce record of exchange of daily messages between Haqqani as ambassador and the Foreign Office during the period under review of the commission. The Supreme Court extended by six weeks the term of the Judicial Commission investigating the Memogate scandal. A 10-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry granted the extension in response to a petition from the three-member Judicial Commission.
