Pakistan Muslim League-Q, President, Senator, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, on Monday presented a formula to end the ongoing power load shedding in the country, saying implementation of proposed formula will go a long way in improving the national economy.
"If the provincial governments cooperate with the federation, the problem of load shedding can easily be solved," he said while talking to media at his Gulberg residence on Monday. Presenting his formula for overcoming load shedding problem, Shujaat maintained that installed power generation capacity in the country is 23,000 megawatt against, which around 15,000MW of power is being produced daily.
He added that power plants are either closed or producing less electricity against their installed capacity for want to resources to meet oil and other requirements for the power plants. According to him, under the NFC award, provinces are required to get another amount of 50 billions of rupees during the remaining three months of the current financial year.
"If the federation deducts this amount for the remaining three months and allocates the same amount to the power plants, there is no reason why electricity load shedding is not eliminated in cities and its duration also reduced in the rural areas considerably". He said, if the provincial governments cooperate with the federation then this problem can easily be solved in this manner. He said implementation of this simple formula depends of the heartedness and positive thinking of all the Chief Ministers of the provinces. With the implementation of this formula, mills would start working again, unemployment would be reduced to a great extent, protesting workers would resume working on their machines and national economy would start getting better and growing.
The PML-Q president also said that a full-fledged campaign should be launched against incidents of power thefts and this drive should be enforced forcefully so that honest electricity consumers are not unnecessarily over-burdened. This would be a right step in the right direction and will go a long way in improving the national economy.
Answering a question, Shujaat said that PML-N protest rallies against load shedding are wrong and unjustified. "We are the well-wishers of the people and allies of the government and that is why we are giving this formula to the government because this could help eliminate electricity load shedding".
Moreover, Omar Sibghatullah Rashdi, MNA, and son of Pir Pagaro Sibghatullah Rashdi along with Makhdoom Ali Akbar called on Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at their residence. During the meeting, country's political situation came under discussion. Former Federal Health Minister Naseer Khan and former Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood were also present on the occasion.
