The Foundation for Rehabilitation & Education of Slow Children (FRESH) officially launched awareness campaign about slow learners on the banner of Pakistan Association for Difficulties in Learning (PADIL).
Renowned Journalist Arif Nizami graced the occasion as chief guest along with former Education Minister Punjab Mian Imran Masood and other notable businessmen, senior bureaucrats and large number of students from various leading institutions. Ashba Kamran the moving spirit behind the idea of PADIL along with Qazi Humayun Farid as President of the Association says a press release issued here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Arif Nizami expressed the hope that PADIL go long in future to change the mindset of Pakistanis on learning disabilities among children. He said the mainstream newspapers and TV channels should also focus on development journalism by highlighting such issues instead of simply focusing on political shows. Also, he said, there is need to engage politicians and policymakers to ensure separate allocations of funds for slow learners of society.
He said distribution of Rs.4 billion laptops among students by taking out Rs.2 billion out of education funds was not a service to the education sector. Instead, he said, the social workers like Ashba Kamran are doing real service to the education sector which needed to be acknowledged and appreciated. He lamented that Pakistan at the bottom line on education front, as whole of its focus was on defence spending and that's all. But he said taking care of slow learners was a uphill task in Pakistan and credit goes to Ashba Kamran.
