Three more fall prey to targeted killings

The spate of targeted killings continued as three persons were killed in separate incidents at various parts of the metropolis during last 24 hours. According to police, at around 9:15 am, two unidentified armed men assaulted Naseem Abbas Naqvi son of Syed Ankha Naqvi with bullets near Medicine Market in the limits of Aram Bagh police station.
After committing the crime, the shooters managed to flee in leaps and bounds and left the victim in a pool of blood. The victim received fatal bullet wounds and succumbed to his injures on the way to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). They said the deceased was targeted when he was going to work from home (A-143) located in Waheedabad, Rizvia Society, Gulbahar and added that the victim, who belonged to Shia community, was running clearing and forwarding business. Hospital sources said the victim was hit by two bullets on his neck and lower jaw. The funeral procession of Naseem was held at Rizvia Imam Bargha. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Yet another man was gunned down at Pahalwan Goth in the limits of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police remits. The incident took place in main bazaar of Pahalwan Goth where unknown armed assailants targeted Sajid Hussain son of Syed Ahmad Shah. The victim was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead. Hospital sources said the victim received two fatal bullet wounds on his abdomen and chin. Tension prevailed in several Shia dominated areas including Rizvia, Pahalwan Goth, Gulbahar, Ancholi, etc where miscreants took to streets and resorted to aerial firings. All commercial and social activities were suspended, due to uncertain situation of these localities. His funeral prayers were offered at Mughal Hazara Goth. No case was registered till filing of this report. A 40-year-old man was shot dead near Nazimabad petrol pump on late Monday. The victim was identified as Asghar Hassan Jafferi son of Ahmad Hassan Jafferi, a resident of Surjani sector 4-A. He was targeted when he was on the way to somewhere in his car (AFF-510) at Nazimabad No 6. Resultantly, he received three bullet wounds and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities. Police said the victim belonged to Shia sect and was serving as manager in Diamond gasoline station.
Meanwhile, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Secretary Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen condemned the killings of three Shiites in Karachi during last 24 hours and expressed concern over the performance of law enforcers in the presence of federal interior minister Rehman Malik. He further said these victims had no political and religious affiliations and demanded to take quick measures to nab the responsible persons.
