Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Botany Department students and faculty members on Wednesday planted 2000 saplings at the GCU old campus as a part of tree plantation campaign initiated by the Punjab Forestry Department across the province.
GCU Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and Punjab Director General Protocol Asjad Ghani Tahir inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting a sampling at GCU Bukhari Lawns. Speaking on the occasion, GCU Botany Department Chairperson, Professor Dr Zaheer uddin Khan said that 400 students and teachers participated in this tree plantation campaign.
Addressing the students on current situation of environmental deterioration, the GCU Vice Chancellor said that the massive cutting of tress in the past decades had endangered the biodiversity of the country. He said that now mass plantation of tress is the best way to reduce pollution from the environment.
