A meeting of the Pak-Egyptian Joint Ministerial Commission will be held soon, Ambassador of Egypt Said Hindam told business community. Addressing members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said both sides would chalk out plans to boost two-way trades and further strengthen economic ties.
He said that Egypt had already invested over $4 billion in different sectors in Pakistan, including cement. He invited KCCI members to visit Egypt to ascertain the demand for Pakistani goods, besides inviting them to take part in forthcoming exhibitions in his country.
Appreciating the signing of an MoU between KCCI and the Cairo Chamber of Commerce for mutual co-operation, he said that it would pave the way for further joint ventures. Stressing the need for increasing multilateral trade with countries of Arab-African region, KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmad called for forming a joint Cairo-Karachi chamber to bridge the two economies.
Highlighting the chamber's achievement, he said that it had formed Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber and efforts are underway to establish Bombay-Karachi Joint Chamber. He also requested the ambassador to invite exhibitors from his country to participate in the Karachi Chamber's My-Karachi Oasis of Harmony Exhibition, scheduled in July 2012. Former president of the KCCI Majyd Aziz, Vice-President KCCI Zia Ahmed Khan and managing committee members also participated in the meeting. President KCCI also presented the chamber's crest to the Egyptian envoy.
