Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that provision of shelter to the poor, disadvantaged and homeless people is the agenda of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He disclosed that after Aashiyana Housing Scheme, Punjab government is launching a programme for the distribution of five-marla residential plots among shelter less people in the cities and villages of the province.
He said that proprietary rights will also be awarded to the dwellers of Katchi Abadis throughout the province and this process will be started from April 26 and completed by May 30.
The Chief Minister directed the commissioners and district co-ordination officers to play their active role in the implementation of these public welfare projects. He warned that no negligence or delay will be tolerated in the execution of these welfare projects. He also issued instructions for selecting a suitable site for Aashiyana Housing Scheme in Multan and presenting the plan of the project within next two days.
He was addressing a meeting regarding five marla scheme and awarding of proprietary rights to the dwellers of katchi abadies, here on Thursday. Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah Khan, Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Members National and Provincial Assembly, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning & Development, secretaries of various departments, Divisional Commissioners, Directors General LDA and Katchi Abadis and concerned officers were present. Former member British Parliament, Ch. Sarwar also attended the meeting. The Chief Minister announced that computerised balloting for the distribution of plots under five-marla scheme will be held on June 06. He said that the proprietary rights to the dwellers of katchi Abadis and the plots allotted under five-marla scheme will be joint property of a husband and the wife.
He said that 713 suitable sites for five-marla have been identified in various cities of the province.
He said that all basic amenities will be provided to the residents of these schemes. The CM directed that a complete survey of the state land given on lease in the province be also conducted so that these lands could be utilised for the welfare of resource-less people.
The Chief Minister while issuing instructions regarding awarding of proprietary rights in Katchi Abadis directed that satellite and physical survey as well as verification process of Katchi Abadis be completed within two weeks.
He further directed that the for the purpose of awarding proprietary rights to the tenants cultivating the state land for generations, a plan should be evolved for deleting the names from the column of cultivation and entering it in the column of owners in the government record.
This project will benefit more than 5,00,000 such cultivators of the province who will till their lands with more commitment and dedication after registering their names in the column of ownership. He said that a Cabinet committee has been constituted for monitoring the programme of five-marla scheme and awarding of proprietary rights to the dwellers of katchi Abadis. The committee will meet thrice a week and review the pace of progress on both these projects. Committees comprising elected representatives will also be formed at district and divisional level for effective implementation of these schemes.
Former member British Parliament Ch. Sarwar while appreciating public welfare projects of Chief Minister Punjab said that these will benefit the common man.
