Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the present government has reactivated the Sindh Coastal Development Authority (SCDA) to uplift the coastal areas of the province, as these areas were neglected during past regimes. This he observed while presiding a meeting of governing body of Sindh Coastal Development Authority (SCDA) held here Friday at Chief Minister House.
He said that the present government intends to provide basic facilities to inhabitants of coastal areas of province particularly in Thatta and Badin districts. Syed Qaim Ali Shah added that SCDA has been reactivated for the development of coastal areas and progress and facilitation of poor and needy people while elected representatives and notables have also been taken on Board of Governing Body.
He directed that all schemes envisaged and approved in Annual Development Programme 2011-12 (with Sindh Coastal Community Development Project - funded by Asian Development Bank and oil palm plantation on 500-acres) be completed before end of the financial year.
The Chief Minister maintained that it is responsibility of Deputy Commissioner to consult respective MPA while preparing development schemes for Annual Development Programme. The chief minister directed to form Development Committees comprising of elected MPA's from each district, one officer from all relevant departments and Deputy Commissioners as Secretary of the Committees.
Earlier, the Director GeneraL Sindh Coastal Development Authority M Hanif Pathan presented a detailed briefing about the working and performance of Authority before the Governing Body. He said that objectives of SCDA are to overall develop, improve and beautify the coastal areas of six talukas of District Thatta and two talukas of district Badin. Director General SCDA added that for improving quality of life of coastal population the provision of infrastructure, creation of employment opportunities be ensured and to give access to market of their products.
