Akram Sheikh, the counsel for US businessman Mansoor Ijaz, filed an application in the Supreme Court on Saturday, seeking a delay in the hearing of Hussain Haqqani's plea for permission to record evidence by a video link before the Memo Commission.
Haqqani's plea is scheduled to be heard by a 10-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on April 19. His application challenges the Memo Commission's order regarding his personal appearance in Islamabad. Akram Sheikh has requested the SC to take up this case of April 20 because he is on general adjournment from April 12 to April 20.
He said that his presence before the court was necessary for proper adjudication of CMA No 1169/2012 filed by Haqqani. According to Sheikh, Haqqani's application is absolutely frivolous as he is not at all entitled to the grant of any indulgence of this august Court on account of his "wilful disobedience" of court's January 30 order.
