The Board of Directors (BoD) Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) has directed the company for immediate disconnection of the power supply of domestic consumers, federal and provincial governments departments and charging of normal tariff from the camps of Afghan refugees.
These directions were issued in 70th meeting of the Board of Directors held at Wapda House Peshawar with Chairman Hassam-uddin Bangash in the chair. Members BoD, Chief Executive, Pesco, Abdul Latif Khan,, Sardar Mohammad Tariq, Syed Ishfaq Hussein, Haji Muhammad Sharif, Dr Asmat Nawaz,, Deputy General Manager Finance Anwar-ul-Haq Yousafzai, Chief Engineer, Planning, Sajjad Ahmad, Chief Engineer Customer Services, Pervaiz Akhtar Shah, Chief Engineer, Technical Fida Mohammad Khan and Director HR & Admn Khurshid Ahmad Orakzai.
The company secretary presented minutes of 69th BoD which were approved after detailed discussions with minor amendments. The Chairman BoD Hassam Bangash hailed the appointment of Abdul Latif Khan as Chief Executive of the company. On the occasion Chief Executive Pesco Abdul Latif thanked on the confidence reposed on him by the BoD. He pledged that he will leave no stone unturned in bringing the company out of the crisis.
The meeting took certain important decisions regarding recovery of arrears and directed the company to immediately disconnect the power connections of all defaulters including both private and public sector consumers. The decision has been taken in line with Ministry Water and Power, which had issued directives to the company the other day.
The board directed the discontinuation of the special package for Afghan refugee camps and charging at normal tariffs. BoD also approved an incentive package for recovery of long outstanding arrears.
In such cases the Pesco employees, who recovers such bad debt will be given 10 per cent of the recovered amount as incentive. This will not only motivate the employees to recover the long outstanding arrears, but will also increase the revenue of the company. Similarly, the BoD further directed the preparation of package for industries disconnected for last 5 years.
The board also analysed the steps taken for the overcoming of the problem of over billing and complaints of consumers. It directed the company for avoiding over billing at all costs and directed the submission of separate monthly report of on over billing and breakdowns complains. The board also approved special package of the payment of the compensation of Rs 0.5 million for the widow of late Qasim Jan, Lineman of Peshawar Circle, who had died in an act of terrorism in Peshawar.
In the line with the decision of federal government the board approved 7 per cent cost living allowance. Like other distribution companies, Pesco was also allowed to obtain a loan of Rs 39 billion from banks. Purchase of 5 power transformers for Rs 190 million from HEC was also approved.
Furthermore to provide new connections the BoD approved the purchase of 100000 single phase meters on Rs 183.5 million from PEL. The board also directed the management of the company to build customer friendly image of the company and resolve the complaints of consumers at their door steps. It asked all the field formations to reduce the line losses and increase recovery. The board was optimistic about 100 per cent recovery till June 30, 2012.
