University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha has stressed the need to ensure quality of milk to protect the health of people. He has also called for setting up of milk-testing labs in the cities to measure the quality of milk being sold in the open market.
The Vice-Chancellor was addressing at a seminar in connection with the World Milk Day organised by UVAS in collaboration with Nestle and Tetra Pak at University's Pattoki Campus on Friday. The theme of the seminar was "Quality of milk, Cost-effective production of milk, Goodness of milk".
Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the major responsibility of increasing milk yield and improving milk quality laid with the University and stressed that every faculty member concerned should conduct research and write research papers for public benefit.
Professor Pasha said milk carried micro-toxins that could cause serious health problems and added that the University and faculty members should create awareness about the issue among public, politicians and companies concerned to ensure that safe milk should reach people. Referring his visit to Turkey, the vice-chancellor said the Turkey was ensuring production and delivery of healthy milk. In Turkey, he said, it was ensured that the milk-producing animals were not suffering from TB or Brusolosis.
