The missionary educational institutions of Rawalpindi continue to fleece the poor students by charging huge school fee, causing many drop outs. The missionary schools including Saint Mary's Cambridge High School, Saint Teresa Girls High School and Saint Patrick Boys High School are working under Catholic Church and funded from across the world.
These missionary institutes were established to provide low cost education to the children of Christian community who are living below poverty line and hardly bearing their living expenses but have turned into money minting machines. A number of children have left these schools as they were unable to pay such huge amounts as school fee while the school authorities were not ready to provide any relief to the deserving ones.
Talking to agency, a parent, Ijaz Qaiser said "My three daughters were studying in class IV, V and VII and left the school as I was unable to pay their fee and the school authorities were not ready to listen to any excuse". He said those charity schools were charging fee ranging from Rs 2,000 to 2,300 monthly of different grades and were just waiving off Rs 200 inspite of committing to give half fee concession to the needy.
Such manifold increase in the fee has compelled many students to discontinue their education while the relevant Church Father, Bishop and the Principal never take interest in the problems of the students. Another parent, Paul said "I am doing a low profile job and I can't afford such high fee and now I left with no option but to put my children on some job".
He urged the government to take strict action against those who are playing with the future of the nation. General Secretary Parents Action Committee, Asif Barnard said a number of students had left those schools during this academic session due to increased fee and there was no controlling authority to keep check on this unjustified increase in fee structure.
