Motorcycle squads have been deputed in 126 union councils for the protection of life and property of the masses in Sialkot district, District Police Officer (DPO) Afzal Ahmad Kausar said on Friday. He said this in a meeting on the programme at the Sialkot Press Club.
The move, he said, was aimed at keeping an eye over criminal elements and to apprehend absconders, drug pushers and suspected persons. The DPO said secret monitoring teams had also been formed to curb corruption and other malpractices in the police department. "Despite a shortage of police personnel, we are making strenuous efforts for minimising crime in the district," he said. He also said that a campaign had also been launched against vehicles without number plates, adding that so far, 800 such motorcycles had been impounded. Afzal said that such vehicles were mostly used in various crime incidents.
