Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan apprised the Supreme Court that the government in principal had decided to regularise the services of a total of 10,6000 Lady Health Workers (LHWs).
Raja Aleem Abbasi, deputy attorney general, appeared before a three-Judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on a constitutional petition moved by Bushra Arain, a LHW working on contract, submitted a document stating that provinces had been asked to send their proposals for further service and salary structures.
To bench's query, he replied that it was decided in principal to regularise services of all the LHWs working in Family Planning and Primary Health Care Project. The Chief Justice observed that it was the job of the provincial government to send proposals over the issue and not of the Supreme Court. The bench disposing of the case, granted two months time for finalisation of the process. The bench in its order observed that a considerable progress was made by the government.
