Properties of defaulters of property tax, excise duty and motor vehicle tax will be sealed and attached if they failed to deposit arrears by due date, said the Director, Excise and Taxation, Faisalabad Division, Akram Ashraf Gondal. Talking to reports here on Friday, he said that special teams of the Excise and Taxation Department had been formed to start proceedings against defaulters immediately after June 15.
He said that lists of defaulters were being prepared and the task for recovery of outstanding taxes would be entrusted to Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs). Giving an overview of recoveries made by the department, Gondal said that they had exceeded the recovery target by as much as Rs 141 million till May 31 this year against the corresponding period of last year. He said that the department had recovered Rs 1,130 million against Rs 989 million last year.
He said that under the head of property tax, the department recovered Rs 471 million, which was Rs 95 million more than last year. Similarly, Rs 480 Million had been recovered in Motor Vehicle Tax Head against rupees Rs 459 million in last year. Expressing optimism regarding achieving an ambitious target og Rs 1,500 million, Akram Ashraf Gondal said that 50,000 new property units had been brought into the tax net during the past six months, adding that the number would jump to 100,000 by the end of the current year.
He was also hopeful of recovering Rs 40-45 million after the completion of an ongoing survey. He said that people could visit him in his office till sunset every day without any prior appointment, adding that his office would remain open even on Sunday during June, 2012, to hear and redress genuine grievances of taxpayers.
