South Korea's Samsung Electronics on June 07 named Kwon Oh-Hyun, one of its vice-chairmen, as its new chief executive officer. Kwon succeeds former CEO Choi Gee-Sung and will handle "corporate-wide affairs" as CEO while continuing to oversee the components businesses, Samsung said in a statement.
The two heads of the company's finished-products divisions - Yoon Boo-Keun, president of TVs and appliances, and Shin Jong-Kyun, president of telecoms and IT - will not report to Kwon. Choi will keep his seat as vice chairman and head the corporate strategy office for the Samsung group, of which the electronics firm is the flagship. The office is a de facto central office for about 60 companies making up the country's largest conglomerate. Choi will concentrate on promoting future growth engines while strengthening collaboration and synergy between Samsung affiliates, the firm said in a statement.
No more details were given about the changes. The announcement comes as Samsung Electronics, the world's largest technology company, moves to separate responsibility among its top leaders to strengthen management efficiency.
