Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) has expressed concern over the discontinuation of electricity supply from Small Power Plants and Captive Power Plants (SPP/CPP) of Faisalabad to industrial and commercial consumers. Nepra should allow the power producers to sell the surplus electricity without any resistant said, President Muzammil Sultan and vice president Rehan Naseem Bharara of the FCCI.
They said that Faisalabad is the textile city and replete with a large variety of industrial units, which are at present in serious energy crisis. The textile and industrial sector is at the moment on the verge of collapse due to the energy crisis, whereby, the Fesco authorities has discontinued the electricity supply from the SPP/CPP who are producing 30-MW electricity; to the industrial units located nearby, which has aggravated the situation and added fuel to the fire.
Resultantly significant number of industrial units has no option left to close their units whereby, about 3-millions of labourers became jobless and creating law and order situation, which is deteriorating day-by-day. It is pertinent to mention that these situations had declined textile exports. The protest processions by the hit labour and the factory owners are being observed on daily basis which is a question mark on the performance of Fesco authorities who always give justifications that they comply with the federal government instructions, they added.
They elaborated that the industrial units located at Khurrianwala are export oriented. In this regard the closure of export oriented units will cause massive loss to the national exchequer in terms of foreign exchange, whereby the deplorable law & order situation will further worsen due to jobless labour.
The Faisalabad industrial community, appealed Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari to intervene into the matter and instruct the Fesco authorities to restore the electricity supply of 30-MW from SPP/CPP of Faisalabad to the industrial units on immediate basis, so that the industrial units may start their business operations smoothly and the labour may get back on their jobs.
