The lower generation of electricity and increasing numbers of faults in the Karachi Electric Supply Company's (KESC) distribution system, have suffered the people for hours' long loadshedding in the city. The crisis-hit people of the city, who brave the hot weather in the absence of electricity, are also forced to spend sleepless nights, living almost disturbed life for over 10 hours daily.
The residents of Mosmiat Choak of Gulshan-e-Iqbal have spent a sleepless night on Wednesday as electricity supply to the affected area remained suspended for over five hours. Some other areas, which reported prolonged power outages, Federal B. Area, Buffer Zone, Korangi 48/B Area, Keamari, Gadap Town, Garden, Gulistan-e-Johar, Shah Faisal and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
"It was more irritating for the people of the area that no help number of the company was attending the customers' complain "a resident of Mosmiat Choak area said. On the other hand, KESC, through a statement, condemned the rising number of protest/violence at its area offices by the loadshedding hit consumers, who according to the company, were trying to pressurize for restoration without wanting to clear their default dues.
In the case of the Garden area PMTs, KESC issued the defaulting consumers several notices for clearance of bills and refraining from the illegal usage of electricity, if they wanted the utility to replace the non-functioning PMTs. However, they refused to cooperate and instead shifted their illegal load through unauthorised hook connections to another adjacent PMT, eventually overloading it to the point of it burning down as well.
Consequently, KESC officials held several meetings with the local MPA and area notables and sought their support for clearance of dues and curbing the menace of power theft. All the same, consistent with their non-co-operative attitude the defaulting power consumers refused to cooperate with their representatives as well and instead attacked the KESC Garden offices to demonstrate their vigilante attitude and lack of respect for the law.
