Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF), welfare and charity organisation, on Friday launched the Orphan Care Programme (OCP), aimed to provide free-education facilities to orphan students in the country. The programme formally launched during a press conference by the organisation president, Inayatullah here at Peshawar Press Club.
He informed that more than 10,000 orphan students under the age of five to 16 years would get free education-scholarships through the programme, which will be carried out different phases in the country.
Flanked by other members of the organisations, he also said that 1,500 students' of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while nearly 500 Federal Administrative Tribal Areas (Fata) would entertain under the programme.
According to UN report on orphan children, he said Pakistan has touched the figure of 4.2 million orphans. However, he added that the organisation programme would handy to provide them education facilities at free-of cost to consider a more civilised citizens in the society.
Inayatullah informed that they had also an awareness campaign to generate funds for the education-support programme, which would continue till two months, saying that each student will cost 30,000 to fulfil all adequate education needs and other facilities.
He observed that the number of orphan children was growing due to constant acts of terrorism and natural calamities in the country. He stressed the need for full support and help to orphan children to become civilised citizens.
The organisation president informed that a sum of Rs300 million would divert through Al-Khidmat Orphan Family Support programme to free-education scheme to orphan children. He further said that the organisation had recorded a data of orphan children from every district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to extend education facilities through the programme. He appealed to the philanthropists to come forward to support the free education-programme with financial assistance.
