MOSCOW: The rouble opened stronger against the dollar and declined against the euro on Friday, tracking global currency market trends, as shares in retailer Magnit fell after a stake purchase by VTB bank.
At 0705 GMT, the rouble was 0.19 percent stronger against the dollar at 56.29 and down 0.06 percent at 70.56 versus the euro.
The dollar slipped to a three-year low against a basket of currencies on Friday, headed for its biggest weekly loss in two years as bearish factors offset support the US currency could take from rising Treasury yields.
Brent crude oil, a global benchmark for Russia's main export, was up 0.26 percent at $64.59 a barrel.
In a rising share market, Magnit fell 3.44 percent after VTB bank's transaction.
The dollar-denominated RTS index was up 0.64 percent to 1,270 points. The rouble-based MOEX Russian index was 0.16 percent higher at 2,270 points.
