ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has been postponed following the Supreme Court decision disqualifying Yousaf Raza Gilani. The ECC meeting was scheduled to be held on Tuesday afternoon with Finance Minister Dr Abudl Hafeez Sheikh in the chair to consider and approve multiple agenda items. Legal experts maintained that after the disqualification of the Prime Minister, his cabinet, too, "stands dissolved".
On Tuesday, Gilani chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy prior to the announcement of the verdict and a press briefing was scheduled to announce the decisions taken by the meeting. The media was informed half an hour before the news conference that the briefing was cancelled. Professor Khurshid, a former Senator and an economist, said that the legal status of the budget would not be affected because it had been passed by Parliament and was a legislative measure and not an executive/administrative one. He added that the detailed judgement was likely to cover this aspect.
