Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Sunday said that government would follow the constitution of the country and its every action would be in accordance with the constitution. This he stated while answering a question whether he will write a letter to Swiss authorities if he will be asked.
Prime Minister said government's top priorities are law and order and the energy crisis in the country.
The PPP-led government respects all the institutions of the country. "We don't want any confrontation between the institutions and believe that all the institutions should work under their mandate given by the constitution," he said.
Talking to reporters during his visit to the mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Prime Minister said his government has started taking measures to resolve these issues soon after taking charge of office.
"A day earlier I had presided over a high-level meeting in Islamabad to discuss the energy shortage issue," he said adding that the meeting had suggested various measures to resolve the issue. "In continuation of the Islamabad meeting, we had another meeting here in Karachi in this regard," he said.
He said the people would feel improvements soon after measures taken by his government are implemented.
He said that Pakistan People's Party and its coalition partners have resolved that they will continue to promote the politics of reconciliation in the country. "It was the vision of our great leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto," he said. "We will continue the policy of reconciliation under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari," he maintained.
He announced that there would be no discrimination. "We want to address all the challenges with the consultation and support of all political forces," he said.
He thanked all the coalition partners for their support in the premiership elections. He also thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, who nominated him for this post.
"We respect all the institutions and don't believe in confrontation between the institutions," he said. The confrontation between the institutions is not in favour of the country, he said.
On a question about the law and order situation in Karachi, the Prime Minister said soon after taking over charge of his office a day earlier, he is here in Karachi. "We recognise the importance of Karachi which is the economic hub of the country," he said adding this port city is engine of country's economy.
"I have discussed the issue with the Sindh Governor and Chief Minister," he said. The Advisor on Interior is also here and he has briefed me on the issue. There is consensus to take action to control law and order situation in this mega city. He said the government will take action against the culprits who are involved in the criminal activities in the city.
Regarding Nato supply, he said the parliament is the supreme institution and the government will take any decision according to the resolution of the parliament. "We want good relations with the United States and all other countries, but these relations should be based on the mutual respect, mutual interest and equality," he said.
He said his government would make sure to hold free, fair and transparent general elections. He said free, fair and transparent elections are in favour of all political parties as well the country.
He reiterated that his government is committed to resolving energy crisis and other issues being faced by the people of the country and said there is need to resolve all these challenges and to give relief to the people of the country.
"We have to follow the three great principles of the Quaid-e-Azam that are unity, faith and discipline. "For the prosperity and progress we have to follow these three principles," he added.
Earlier, the newly-elected Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf laid floral wreath and offered Fateha at the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, federal and provincial ministers, MNAs, MPAs and a number of PPP leaders were also present on this occasion.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister presided over a high-level meeting at Governor House and discussed the energy crisis issue.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, and Federal Minister Nazar Muhammad Gondal and Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah attended the meeting.
Various measures to reduce loadshedding on war footing were discussed at the meeting. It was decided to hold negotiations with all stakeholders to increase power generation.
It was also decided that more gas would be provided from Sindh to power generation sector to minimise loadshedding in the country. The Sindh Governor and Chief Minister assured the Prime Minister to extend their support to the federal government in reducing loadshedding in the country.
