On the directives of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Relief department has handed over 12,000 tents to Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of 15 districts in wake of the upcoming monsoon rains. Official sources told Business Recorder that Assistant Relief Commissioner (ARC) has handed over tenets to DCs of Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Nausheroferoze, Khairpur Mir's Ghotki, Kambar-Shahdadkot, Matiari, TandoAllahyar, Shikarpur, Umerkot, Malir and West Karachi districts.
In a move to asses the expected losses due to monsoon rains, officials of Relief department has sent pre-assessment forms to concerned DCs, they said. DC's of all districts would identify the sensitive Indus and non-Indus embankments, vulnerable villages and the areas which are still inundated in water of last year's heavy rains, they said.
The profarma have a column wherein the concerned DC is required to mention the safe and big grounds which could be utilised for the purpose of relief camps. The profarma also required the information of water supply schemes available in rain-affected areas, their current status, capacity of water sustainability and others.
