ISLAMABAD: In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has partnered with global health organisation Vital Strategies to launch a communication campaign to share critical information on preventing the spread of Covid-19 with the public. Currently, Pakistan has 188,259 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
Through its resolve to save lives initiative's global Covid-19 response efforts, Vital Strategies is providing support for electronic media and newspaper materials that aim to inform the public of key behaviours that can prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The government will launch the media campaign which emphasises the mandatory use of face masks in public places - enforceable by law - and need to maintain a physical distance of at least two meters when leaving home, among other key messages. Other government agencies are also engaged in the campaign development and dissemination.
Though the government has eased some restrictions, efforts to control the spread of coronavirus must continue. The public should practice frequent hand-washing with soap for at least 20 seconds and coughing or sneezing into a tissue or elbow. Individuals, who feel unwell, have been diagnosed with Covid-19, or has been in contact with someone who has, should stay home and contact 1166.
"Timely and accurate communication during a crisis keeps people informed and safe," said Sandra Mullin, Senior Vice President for Policy, Advocacy and Communication at Vital Strategies. "By using multiple platforms and key messages to reach the public, the government is providing millions of people with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their families throughout the pandemic."
The campaign aims to reach and to provide the public with precautions to prevent the spread of the pandemic, an understanding of symptoms of Covid-19, and how to seek treatment if ill.
The government currently partners with Vital Strategies on tobacco control and cardiovascular health.-PR
