LAHORE: The Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) has entered into an agreement with the provincial governments of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Balochistan to supply 100,000 metric tons and 15,000 tons of wheat, respectively.
This arrangement is in line with the decision of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to release wheat from the government stocks to wheat deficient provinces.
GM Fields PASSCO Muzahir Iqbal told Business Recorder that their Corporation and the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have jointly signed a MoU by which PASSCO will release 100,000 metric tons wheat to the food department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly, as per the requirement of government of Balochistan, 15000 metric tons will be released to the food department of Balochistan in the coming days.
The PASSCO will keep releasing wheat, without any break, as per the requirement of both the provincial governments in order to help them address the rising prices of wheat and flour in their respective provinces.
To a question, Muzahir said the release of wheat depends on how fast they mobilize their transport contractors. He hoped that the supply will start during the current week.
