LETTER: This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "CCP slumbered whilst consumers short-changed?" carried by the newspaper on Thursday. The writers, Prof Khalid A Mirza and Dr Joseph Wilson, have argued, among other things, that "when we talk about competition in reference to the functioning of the market, we mean the rivalry amongst economic agents to secure a larger (or largest) share of the market. A market is called competitive, when there are a large number of market players, products are fairly homogeneous, buyers have perfect information, and there are no unreasonable barriers to entry or exit from market."

The argument advanced by these two exports has provided me with an opportunity to request them to write on the wheat flour and sugar crises as well with a view to enlightening the newspaper readers like myself to learn how and where the Competition Commission of Pakistan has failed in discharge of its duty in accordance with its mandate as a regulator.
