PESHAWAR: The upward trend in prices of essential food items, including vegetable, pulses, chicken meat, fresh milk, sugar, flour, fruits, cooking oil/ghee and others was witnessed, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder here in local market on Sunday.

During weekly survey in local market, it was witnessed that price of live chicken/ meat had been increased at Rs 208 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs201 per kilogramme during last week in the local market. It added a dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs 120-130. However, price of cow meat was remained unchanged as available at Rs 450-500 per kilogramme, whereas mutton beef was available at Rs 1000-1100 per kilogramme.

Again flour crisis in looming Peshawar, the prices have been increased in local market, as 20 kg flour bag was available at Rs 1100-1150, showing an increase of Rs 200-300 per bag. Similarly, the sugar price has gone up as available at Rs 85-90 per kilogramme against the price of Rs 80 per kilogramme in the previous week.

Fresh milk is being sold at Rs140 from Rs130 per litre against the official fixed price of Rs90 per litre, while yogurt was available at Rs 130 to Rs 140 per kilogramme against the official fixed price of Rs 80 per kilogramme, the survey noticed.

The survey witnessed the prices of pulses and food grains remained high-side in retail market. For instance, good quality rice (sela) was available at Rs 160 per kilogramme. Toota rice is being sold at Rs 70-80 per kilogramme. Price of red bean is being sold at Rs 220 to Rs 250 per kilogramme, Dal mash at Rs 260-270 per kilogramme, Dhoti Daal at Rs 280-290 per kilogramme in the local market.

Big-size white channa is being sold at Rs 180-200 per kilogramme against the price of Rs 160 per kilogramme, while white lobiya was available within a range of Rs 160-170 and Rs 180 per kilogramme. Dal Channa is being sold at Rs160-170 per kilogramme.

According to the survey, the prices of veggies remained sky-rocketed in the local market. Ginger is being sold at Rs 400 per kilogramme, garlic was available at Rs 300-320 per kilogramme. Capsicum is priced at Rs 100-120 per kilogramme, while ladyfinger is being sold at Rs 120-130 per kilogramme.

Peas are being sold at Rs 160-200 per kilogramme, Arvi at Rs 100-120 per kilogramme. Cucumber is being sold at Rs 60-70 per kilogramme. Lemon was available at Rs 160 per kilogramme, onion at Rs 70-80 per kilogramme.
