ISLAMABAD: As many as 85 confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in the federal capital on Monday with confirmed cases in the federal capital having reached 13,494 and the total number of deaths due to coronavirus, so far, have been recorded at 137 within the jurisdiction of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Earlier on Sunday, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Islamabad was recorded at 13,409, which jumped to 13,494 on Monday, showing an increase of 85 cases in 24 hours.

Apparently, the situation involving the number of coronavirus cases in the federal capital is much under better as compared to few weeks ago when over 400 confirmed coronavirus cases were being reported on a daily basis.

According to Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA), its smart lockdown policy has greatly worked to reduce the number of coronavirus cases in the federal capital.

According to official data, 9,156 persons in Islamabad have recovered from this deadly pandemic so far showing an increase of 546 persons who recovered from coronavirus in the last three days.

Recently, the ICTA notified to seal different sectors of Islamabad including I-8, I-9, I-10, G-9, G-10 and other areas due to rising number of coronavirus cases in these sectors and de-sealed them when reduction in the number of coronavirus cases was reported.

The ICTA says the de-sealed areas will be regulated by the prevailing orders of Section 144.

In case of any violation of standard operating procedure (SOP), strict legal action will be taken against the delinquents under the relevant provisions of law, according to ICTA.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) empowers district administration to issue orders in public interest that may place a ban on an activity for a specific period of time. Such a ban is enforced by the police who register cases under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for violations of the ban. Section 188 carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison or fine or both.
