KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) sought a detailed report from provincial government on Tuesday about the treatment of patients diagnosed with disease other than Covid-19 and the conditions of hospitals in province.

A division bench of SHC ordered Sindh Healthcare Commission and other departments to submit the report in the court on 22 July.

High Court sought the details about the measures being taken to treat the patients at a time when Covid-19 positive case also coming in large numbers to hospitals. "Court should be satisfied about the steps taken in this regard," Justice Khadim Hussain Sheikh remarked.

He inquired about the working of regulatory authority as what it has been doing in the province and observed that steps taken to provide healthcare should be visible.

Petitioner submitted in the court that patients suffering from diseases other than Covid-19 are facing hardships in the hospitals and added that even those patients injured in accidents and suffering from cardiac problems are also being subjected to Covid-19 tests.

He questioned, "What law permits [hospitals] to ask for a coronavirus certificate before admitting a patient to an emergency ward?"
