The government will not impede the progress of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council's (DPC) long march but lawlessness will not be tolerated, Senior Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference, he said: "Adequate security measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incident during the long march. In this regard, Punjab Police and Islamabad police will fully cooperate with each other," he said.
Rehman Malik said that security cameras had been installed and four helicopters would be deployed for aerial surveillance along the long march's route to ensure security.
He said that the Prime Minister had directed to provide all facilities‚ including security and drinking water‚ to the marchers. However‚ he said that members of the proscribed organisations would not be allowed to enter Islamabad or indulge in any activities here.
The adviser urged leaders of the council not to challenge the government's writ. He said that DPC leaders had assured him that their protest would be peaceful and they would cooperate with security agencies.
