KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Thursday adopted four government's bills with a majority vote despite the opposition's harsh noisy protest. Opposition leader, Firdous Shamim Naqvi of the PTI led other political parties to oppose the Ziauddin Medical University (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which sought the establishment of a campus abroad. Naqvi shouted "shame on you", while the bill was being adopted by the PPP majority legislators in the house.

The house also introduced the Sindh Evacuee Trust Properties (Management and Disposal) Bill, 2019 and The Sindh Wildlife Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management Bill, 2020. Both bills were sent to the house concerned standing committees and expected to be tabled again on Monday's sitting for the legislature's approval.

The house however adopted the bills with a majority vote only the ruling PPP lawmakers voted in their favour as the opposition in protest later walked out from the assembly floor. The bills were passed without being discussed.

After the passage, the Sindh Board of Technical Education and the Sindh Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2020 will help diploma and certificate holders pass without being examined. Saeed Ghani, the Sindh Education Minister called the opposition's protest 'unknown' to the legislation.

He said that it was a single line amendment to the existing law to pass the students. The decision on students' promotions to the next levels was taken in the NCC.

Lawmakers attended the session wearing Sindhi cultural dress with enveloping Ajrak, a traditional fabric, to denounce the cultural bigotries.
