KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 80,602 tonnes of cargo comprising 65,113 tonnes of import cargo and 15,489 tonnes of export cargo including 3,470 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargos of 65,113 tonnes comprised of 31,728 tonnes of containerised cargo; 394 tonnes of general cargo; 3,406 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 29,585 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 15,489 tonnes comprised of 8,817 tonnes of containerised cargo; 85 tonnes of general cargo and 6,587 tonnes of bulk cargo. As many as 3,470 containers comprising of 2,257 containers of import and 1,213 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 529 of 20's and 817 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 47 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 226 of 20's and 258 of 40's loaded containers while 01 of 20's and 235 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were seven ships namely Rome Express, KMTC Mumbai, Saxonia, MT Lahore, MT Quetta, Chem New Orleans and Aramis carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels carrying oil tankers, clinkers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 148,692 tonnes comprising of 117,591 tonnes of import cargo and 31,101 tonnes of export cargo including 2,139 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 117,591 tonnes includes 16,840 tonnes of LNG; 27,115 tonnes of coal; 11,167 tonnes of palm oil; 22,700 tonnes of mogas; 15,000 tonnes of canola; 500 tonnes of chemical; 4,300 tonnes of LPG and 19,969 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 31,101 tonnes includes 10,429 tonnes of cement and 20,672 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,139 containers comprising of 1,051 containers import and 1,088 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were three ships namely X-Press Guernsey, Soho Mandate and Borneo carrying containers, coal and LNG respectively sail out to sea on Thursday morning, while four ships namely Maersk Kensington, Sun Globe, Epic Salina and BW Amazon carrying containers, coal, LPG and mogas respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, chemical, canola, LPG, LNG, mogas and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eight vessels viz. Aristomenis, Hansa America, African Paza, Gas Chem Dollart, Gas Zeus, Till Jocob, Four Sky and Nord Merkur carrying containers, cement, chemical, LPG, mogas and gas oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five ships viz. Aristomenis, Hansa America, Maersk Bentonville, Gas Chem Dollart and Nord Merkur carrying containers chemical and gas oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There were one ship namely Maersk Bentonville carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday while three more containers ships namely Jappesen Maersk, Diyala and MSC Lusia are due to arrive on Saturday.
