KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Friday said that Muslims of sub-continent got separate homeland after tireless struggle of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and sacrifices of founders of Pakistan.
"It is our obligation to play our due role for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and make our beloved country developed," Akhtar said this after paying visit to mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He also laid floral wreath and registered his comments on the visitors' book. Talking to media, he paid rich tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali and termed him a great leader.
He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) will win more seats than the past and next mayor will belong to his party, if free and fair elections are held. "On this historic day, would request Chief Justice of Pakistan to take up his petition regarding empowerment of local bodies and decide it by 30th of August," he added.
Akhtar said that tenure of current local bodies is completing on 30th of August and he appeared on the mausoleum as mayor for the last time. He said he wanted that next Mayor should be empowered.
