KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 177,873 tonnes of cargo comprising 126,174 tonnes of import cargo and 51,699 tonnes of export cargo including 6,586 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 126,174 tonnes comprised of 63,730 tonnes of containerised cargo; 13,344 tonnes of bulk cargo and 49,100 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 51,699 tonnes comprised of 31,323 tonnes of containerised cargo and 20,376 tonnes of bulk cargo.

As many as 6,586 containers comprising of 3,697 containers of import and 2,889 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,359 of 20's and 1,068 of 40's loaded while 62 of 20's and 70 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 804 of 20's and 599 of 40's loaded containers while 103 of 20's and 392 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely CMA CGM Lambartine, Navig8 Universe and Flag Ganges carrying containers, chemical and clinkers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were two vessels carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 224,171 tonnes comprising of 193,405 tonnes of import cargo and 30,766 tonnes of export cargo including 3,813 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 193,405 tonnes includes 53,260 tonnes of LNG; 4,953 tonnes of gas oil; 3,000 tonnes of gasoline; 62,466 tonnes of coal; 2,000 tonnes of palm oil; 14,000 tonnes of soyabean; 3,718 tonnes of chemical and 50,008 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 30,766 tonnes includes 6,574 tonnes of cement; 1,753 tonnes of steel coil and 22,439 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,813 containers comprising of 2,632 containers import and 1,181 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There was one ship namely Epic Salina carrying LPG sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely Al Mahboobah carrying chemical is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of twelve ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, soyabean, LPG, LNG, gasoline, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eleven vessels viz. Bulk Friendship, Sea Melody, Rhodos, Star Monica, Tron Gan, Kamari, Tiger Winter, Gas Amazon, BW Colombia, Al-Salam-II and Sea Hazel carrying coal, cement, chemical, LPG, gasoline, gas oil and crude oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There was one ship viz. Rhodos carrying coal expected to take berth at Pakistan International Bulk Terminal on Wednesday.

There are three ships namely Maersk Brooklyn, Diyala and OOCL Atlanta carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
